About The NAPS Credential

Volume 2, Number 8                                                                                                                              September 2007

Released to coincide with the annual celebration of Labor Day, America's Dynamic Workforce: 2007, offers the perspective of the US Department of Labor regarding the labor market and economy. Relying heavily on trend data, the report informs readers about the state of work in the nation and the critical challenges that must be addressed if employment and the economy are to continue to grow.

The highlights of the 2007 report include:

     · Employment in America has reached record heights.
     · The economy has recorded 46 consecutive months of job gains (through June, 2007).
     · Technology remains a strong influence and significant challenge to future growth.
     · America continues to transition to a "knowledge-based" economy.
     · Recent job growth has been in occupations with above-average compensation.
     · Education (preparation and continuing) represents the key to individual success
        in a dynamic labor market.

America's Dynamic Workforce: 2007 points to two trends that will influence how the US workforce will be constituted during the first half of this century. These include the growth in the aging population and our expanding racial and ethnic diversity. How each trend is addressed will leverage how employment and the economy are impacted.

The full report is worthy of reading by all staffing professionals as they seek to serve and support their clients and candidates. The report, including data, analysis and discussion, can be found at: http://www.dol.gov/asp/media/reports/workforce2007/ADW2007_Full_Text.pdf

Frequently Asked Questions - In House Training Programs Count

Each edition of The NAPS Credential will answer one or two questions being asked by current and prospective CPCs and CTSs as they interface with the NAPS national office.

Question: Our firm sets aside a day each quarter when we bring in a professional expert to provide training in some aspect of our work. Can this experience be applied to the NAPS continuing education maintenance requirement?

Answer: Certainly. Many staffing firms are engaged in their own staff development efforts and they can be counted toward the NAPS certification continuing education maintenance requirements. Calculate the number of contact hours (a full day program typically results in 7 hours of actual training) and instruct CPCs and CTSs to include that amount of time on their continuing education log. If any questions arise about this process, feel free to contact Frank Burtnett, NAPS Certification and Education consultant at fburtnett@recruitinglife.com.
