About The NAPS Credential

Volume 1, Number 2                                                                                                                              September 2006

By Frank Burtnett, Ed.D., NAPS Certification and Education Consultant

You've taken the vary serious step of seeking and achieving NAPS certification and you now have earned either the Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) or Certified Temporary Staffing-Specialist (CTS) certificate (or both). Most of you place those letters after your name and in the literature and web messages you use to advance your firm. Now NAPS has taken a new, even larger, step to call public and professional attention to your certification achievement.

At www.nrcsip.com you will find the National Registry of Certified Staffing Industry Professionals, a place where employers and candidates you would like to serve can go and learn about the certificate(s) you hold and see your name posted among the individuals who separate themselves from the rest of the staffing industry through CPC and CTS certification.

Certificants who do not find their name and credential posted on the NCRSIP can act personally add their identity by using the "register/log" in link at the web site and completing the profile that will lead to NRCSIP listing. You can opt for either the basic or expanded listing (see next story) and you must allow NAPS headquarters three days to verify that you are an active certificant before your name and information will be posted there.

In late fall and early winter, NAPS is going to embark on a major initiative to call consumer and public attention to the importance of certification and how employers and candidates can use the NRCSIP to validate the certification credentials of the staffing professionals with whom they are working. Make certain your credential is posted as you don't want to miss out on this exciting form of professional identification, one that has unlimited potential for influencing your business activity.

Basic and Expanded Registry Profiles: Which Option Suits You Best?

The NRCSIP offers two ways for you to be listed-one that will meet the needs of all NAPS certificants.

Option 1: A listing indicating name, certification(s) held and firm.

Jane Doe CPC, CTS -- Superior Employment Services

The basic listing is complimentary and a "value added" feature of the NAPS certification program.

Option 2: An expanded listing providing email, telephone and web site information.

Jane Doe CPC, CTS -- Superior Employment Services
jd@superior.com
Suite 444
1900 Heritage Avenue
Portland, ME 04667
207.555.1212
www.superiorstaffing.com

For the expanded listing, certificants pay $50 per year. If three (3) or more certificants from the same firm elect the extended listing, the cost will be $35 per individual per year.

You can submit this information electronically at www.nrcsip.com and use your credit card if you elect option 2. If you prefer, provide written information consistent with the above listings and send to: NAPS/NRCSIP, PO Box 2128, The Village at Banner Elk, Suite 108, Banner Elk, NC 28604. Again, if you elect option 2, make check payable to NAPS.

Promotion of the Registry in Public and Professional Circles

NAPS intends to promote the National Registry of Certified Staffing Industry Professionals extensively and encourage both the public using employment services and employers considering permanent placement or temporary staffing firms to visit www.recruitinglife.com and validate the credentials of these individuals. A national "media blitz" will occur this fall and winter with news releases going to newspapers, television/radio stations, industry and human resource communiqués.

NAPS believes that promotion and use of the registry will result in improved public and business understanding of certification and lead more people to check the registry to examine the credentials of staffing industry representatives. That traffic will also provide business pathways directly to you, especially if you opt for the expanded listing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for July

Each edition of The NAPS Credential will answer one or two questions being asked by CPCs and CTSs as they interface with leaders and the national office. Readers are encouraged to submit personal questions for consideration.

Question: I'm writing a proposal for a prospective client for our staffing firm? Is it appropriate for me to indicate those persons on the staff who hold NAPS certification and list the registry as a place to validate their credentials?

Answer: Absolutely! You have hit upon one of the greatest benefits of the NRCSIP. The firm that gets your proposal can go to the NRCSIP and get information on what CPC or CTS certification mean and see that you are officially recognized as having earned one or both of those credentials.

Question: I attended a state meeting of one of the NAPS affiliated groups. How do I count that continuing education experience toward my certification maintenance?

Answer: A number of years ago NAPS gave blanket approval to all state organization meetings and you can count any time spent in those learning or networking sessions toward your 50 contact hours (5.0 Continuing Education Units) required every three years. Just make an entry on to you continuing education log indicating the program, date and number of hours. A typical day long conference (9am to 4:30pm/6 or 7 hours) has a value of .6 or .7 CEUs. Don't have a log? Go to: http://recruitinglife.com//download.ceulog.pdf.
